When it comes to community development, we usually stick to Durham. However, through our partnership with the National Community Stabilization Trust, we committed to resolve 20 distressed properties across the state of North Carolina. One of these properties was 499 Adam’s Apple Dr, Building #6, in the town of Banner Elk.

After resolving Building #6, we turned our attention to Building #10, which had been condemned for over 10 years. Reinvestment Partners and neighborhood residents worked together to catalyze Avery County government to complete the process and allow for demolition.

On November 18, 2017, the Avery County Fire Department demolished the structure using a controlled burn.
